RECAST

The RECAST project aims to create an easy-to-use yet adaptable framework for process support, which automatically replaces manual process steps with AI solutions based on aggregated production data. To evaluate the concept, the framework is to be used as an example for quality control and process optimization of welding processes for thermoplastic composites.

RECAST is a joint project of the WOGRA AG research group in cooperation with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany abbreviated BMBF. The project duration is 3 years with a budget of 1.4 Mio EUR.

The idea for this project goes back to spring 2022. The idea for this project goes back to spring 2019. Just before that I met Lars Larsen from DLR at the AI Convention at Augsburg. Together with his colleague Alfons Schuster we wondered if it wouldn’t be possible to just bring AI into production. And in such a way that everyone can use it - open-source.

Now, two years, three submitted sketches, and a final request later, the time has come. We start in May 2022. At this point I definitely have to say thank you to WOGRA AG for your trust over such a long time.
